Amazon Kindles are selling like the proverbial hot cakes, the company has suggested in what seems to be a come-back at rival suppliers of ebook readers around the world.
Barnes & Noble chairman Len Riggio recently told Publishers Weekly that his firm has been shifting its NookColors at a rate of roughly 18,000 a day but Amazon is evidently proud of its own performance in what is a fast-growing sector.
In a message to its Kindle Community and on its Facebook page, Amazon has described its headline ebook reader as selling by the million in recent months and Hp nc6120 battery noted that sales have dramatically out-stripped those seen in 2009.
The message read: “Thank you Kindle customers! Thanks to you, in just the first 73 days of this holiday quarter, we’ve already sold millions of our all-new Kindles with the latest E Ink Pearl display.
“In fact, in the last 73 days, readers have purchased more Kindles than we sold during all of 2009. We’re grateful for and energised by this response.”
The run-up to Christmas always looked like being a bumper period for Amazon in terms of Kindle sales but there are a number of new entrants to the dedicated ebook reader market, including the nine-inch Eee Reader DR900 released by Asus last month.
A recent report from the Gartner research firm suggested that more than six million dedicated ebook reader devices will have been sold by the end of 2010 and that this figure will reach at least 11 million over the course of next year.
